Growing Up in Hawaii The Hawaiian surfing star was born on August 27, 1992. Growing up in the Hawaiian Islands, she had easy access to world-class waves. Her father, her supportive father, introduced her to surfing at an early stage of childhood. Together they spent many mornings at the beach. These early experiences helped develop her technique.
